Locations for Producer Project:
After speaking to our script writers about what they had come up with, and me and Jai making a few alterations, the task of sorting out locations, actors, equipment, etc, needed to be set in motion. After discussing with Jai, which jobs he wanted to do, I volunteered to find Location, and gain contact.
Between myself, Jai and our script writers, we came to a conclusion of what features the location needed to have. The film is a to be – and the best way I found to describe it was – “Downton-Abbey-meets-Eastenders” modern drama, as in that the setting is posh yet modern day.
So I’m looking for a location that involves a grand looking garden – a place that looks like time, money and professional care has been put into it’s maintaining it’s well being.
For our ‘Cinderella’ film the first choice of location is at ‘Brooksby hall’.
For a start Brooksby is a fairly close by location. Also Jai said that he had his prom there, and he commented that the grounds are stunning. As stated on their home website page, which shows that the Hall can be used as a wedding, dining, meeting or conference, venue – Brooksby Hall is a “picturesque 16th Century Manor House set on an 850 acre estate in the heart of the beautiful Leicestershire countryside.”(1)
And from looking at the photos of the manor I felt that the place had potential. However I wanted to look for more photos of the gardens, since our film is set in the garden. And what I’ve found is beautiful!
Quiet a few photos showed potential, however the one I particularly loved was the one below – the archway created by the leaves (obviously there will be a difference due to the recent season). However I feel that the archway can give a subtle ‘theatre curtain’ feel, giving a symbolic idea that what the stepmother sees is a play unfolding before her.
However if this location is unavailable for any reason, as a back up I have chosen to look into four other locations.
This garden centre is a beautiful place, however this place may need a little more preparation to film at. This location would require payment to enter, and possibly a fee to film – if they allowed us to. I have been to this location once, and from what I remember it was a quaint place, with beautiful gardens.
Another possible location is Beaumanor Hall in Woodhouse, Leicestershire. “Beaumanor Hall is a Victorian country house located in Woodhouse, Leicestershire. Set in 34 acres of idyllic countryside.”(4)
And a final possible location is Belton House.
I have visited this location on my family days out, and in my personal opinion it is a beautiful place. Used in the BBC’s 1995 ‘Pride and Prejudice’ TV series to create “Rosings, Lady Catherine de Bourgh’s estate, which needed to appear “over-the-top” to reflect her disagreeableness”(6) the 17th Century country homes holds amazing gardens, including Italian and Dutch style gardens. Like the last two locations, this place may agree to filming permission at a price.
So I informed Jai of the required information that we needed to pass on to the staff members at Brooksby.
Since the script wasn’t quiet ready, Jai and myself said about heading over to Brooksby to find our location for filming. I sent an email to Brooksby to ask permission to have a look around the grounds (see below).
Jai and I went to Brooksby and took a look around the grounds. Once we returned to college I wrote up a risk assessment.
Uneven ground – Mid risk – A crew member or actress could trip. So they need to be informed before filming. (Also have a first aid on stand by, or find out the nearest first aid point, on the filming day – incase anything happens.)
After determining where we wanted to film, and we finally had all our information gathered. I sent a final email to all the people mentioned in the second email, informing them of dates – times- no of people – location etc.
They replied with:
Seeing as that
Since that it was taking too long to receive replies via email, Jai offered to ring Brooksby on the group’s behalf because he had connections. We managed to gain permission.
Jai volunteered to do the following jobs:
Actors and Make up – because he had connections
